What is a MAC Address?

A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces. It's a 48-bit address typically shown as six groups of two hexadecimal digits.

Format examples:

  • 00:1A:2B:3C:4D:5E
  • 00-1A-2B-3C-4D-5E
  • 001A2B3C4D5E

OUI (Organizationally Unique Identifier): The first 24 bits identify the manufacturer.
